La
versió electrònica del diari Libération
va publicar, algun dia de l'any 1998 (però no sabem precisar
més), un article sobre Vinton Cerf on informava del següent:
"Vinton
Cerf est largement considéré
comme le «père
de l'Internet». Une paternité qu'il partage avec son
compère Bob
Kahn, insiste-t-il.
Les deux chercheurs inventaient en 1974 le protocole IP, à
la base
de tout échange de
données sur le réseau."
Buscant
informació sobre Vinton Cerf vam anar a parar a una History
of the Net: http://www.ocean.ic.net/ftp/doc/nethist.html
(que a finals de setembre del 98) encara era activa a l'adreça
de l'enllaç, més endavant ja no sé si li mantindran.
Allà hi vam llegir això:
"The
history of the Net begins in the 1960s with the establishment of
the packet-switched networks. Packet-switching is a method of fragmenting
messages into sub-parts called packets,
routing them to their destinations, and reassembling them.
Packetizing information
has several advantages. It facilitates allowing several users to
share the same connection by breaking up the data into discrete
units which can be routed separately. Because no transmission medium
is 100% reliable,
packet-switching allows
one "bad" packet to be re-sent while other "good" packets are uninterrupted
in their transmission.
Packets
may carry information about themselves, where they have been and where
they are going. In addition,
packets may be compressed for speed and size
advantages or encrypted for
security."
I més
endavant, una altra informació que podria fer canviar la data
de l'era Internet en dos anys, el 1972 en comptes de 1974 (vejeu l'entrada
"contradiccions"):
The
Internet, the "Network of Networks," had its origin in 1972.
Hauben [1993a] says:
In
October 1972, the First International Conference on Computer Communications
was held in Washington, D.C. A public demonstration of the ARPANET
was given setting up an actual node with 40 machines.
Representatives from projects around the world including Canada, France,
Japan, Norway, Sweden, Great Britain and the U.S. discussed the need
to
begin work on establishing
agreed upon protocols.
The
InterNetwork Working Group (INWG) was created to begin discussions
for such a common protocol and Vinton Cerf, who was involved with
UCLA Arpanet
was chosen as the first
Chairman. The vision proposed for the
architectural principles for an international interconnection of networks
was "a mess of independent, autonomous networks interconnected by
gateways, just as independent
circuits of ARPANET are interconnected by IMPs." [Hauben, 1993a]
Així
doncs sembla que hi hauria dues dates del naixement de la "criatura"
Internet:
-
una
que posaria èmfasi en la cimera "First International Conference
on Computer Communications" de Washinton, l'octubre del 1972.
-
una
altra que posaria l'èmfasi en la invenció del protocol
de comunicacions IP, l'any 1974.
A nosaltres
ens agrada més la segona data, per allò de donar a la
criatura uns pares humans, a una invenció humana amb rostre,
més que no pas l'atribució d'aquella paternitat a una
conferència que va desencadenar la gestació ... malgrat
que això suposi caure en el parany reduccioniste, mitificador
i romanticoide de personalitzar en un sòl home el que devia
ser el fruit de centenars o milers d'esforçats enginyers i
secretaris teclejadors....
No
sé si a hores d'ara, algú ja ha "DECIDIT" l'hora i el
dia "I" a partir de la qual es començarà a comptar la
Història de l'Era Internet. Si nosaltres haguéssim de
votar --que no ens ho demanaran pas-- votaríem pel 1974.
Vaig
decidir pel meu compte anomenar l'any 1974, any 1 de l'Era Internet.
I això explica perquè a la capçalera del Dicofilopersiflex
hi consta: "diccionari creat l'any XXIII de l'Era Internet" (l'any 1997
de l'Era cristiana, vaja).
Que
el toc d'humor valgui com el meu petit homenatge d'admiració
al personatge mític de Vinton Cerf que va contribuir a canviar
la Història del planeta encara que fos al preu de fer-nos pagar
unes factures de telèfon desorbitades ;-(
En

Intenet i jo
En
un lloc de la costa mediterrània, vivia, (viu en cara, sóc
jo), vivia deia, feliç sense ordinadors un home, jove encara,
bona vista, pèls al cap, vida mitjanament sana i sense "galgo
corredor".
Però
vet aquí que en pujar al carro de la informàtica primer
i de la telemàtica després, se li va començar a
gastar la vista a les pantalles, l'addicció als bits/s el va
enganxar a les cadires i, el seu cervell, confós per tanta virtualitat
se li va anar assecant de mica en mica. De
com l'Internetoaddicte se salvà de l'eixalabrament
total.
Quan
tot semblava dat i beneit, i ja ningú no en donava ni un duro
...
